Dental Bridges

Are you self-conscious because you have missing teeth? Not only can they be cosmetically unappealing, but missing teeth also significantly increase the risk of disease and decay in your other teeth and gums.

The most common way to fix missing teeth is to install a dental bridge. A dental bridge is simply a false tooth. It’s attached to the mouth between two of your natural teeth via two porcelain crowns. The false tooth is suspended between the two crowns that act a bridge, holding the false tooth in place. Dental bridges are not dentures and, as such, dental bridges are not removable.

Typically, it takes two appointments to install a dental bridge:

  • Step 1: You will have an initial consultation with Dr. Mary Kissinger-Blakeley. She will help you determine the type of dental bridge that is appropriate for your individual needs.

  • Step 2: Dr. Kissinger-Blakeley will then make an impression of your mouth. This impression is sent to a lab, where the bridge, false tooth, and crowns will be made. While this is going on, a temporary bridge will be placed in your mouth to protect your teeth and gums.

  • Step 3: Approximately two weeks later, Dr. Kissinger-Blakeley will remove your temporary bridge and the new, permanent bridge will be fitted. After being checked and adjusted for any bite discrepancies, your new dental bridge will then be cemented to your teeth.

Missing teeth lead to more dental problems than almost any other cosmetic dental-related problem.
