Below are some frequently asked questions about Invisalign clear aligner therapy.
What conditions can Invisalign treat?
Over 1.7 million people have used Invisalign to straighten their teeth. While each treatment is unique, some common types of misalignment include:
Underbite Bucked Teeth
Overbite Gapped Teeth
How is Invisalign different than traditional metal braces?
Invisalign clear aligners are nearly invisible, comfortable and, best of all, removable. So you don't have to worry about having braces for your wedding, school pictures or that big event you were planning. There are also no food restrictions with Invisalign, so no need to avoid certain foods you love. Simply wear the aligners all the time except when eating or brushing your teeth.
What is the process?
If you are a candidate, impressions will be taken of your teeth to create a mold to send to Invisalign. They will then use precision software to generate your aligners. Once we receive your aligners back we will contact you to set up an appointment.
At that appointment, Dr. Kissinger-Blakeley or Dr. Braasch will fit the aligners to your teeth and ensure a proper fit. You will wear them all the time except when eating or brushing your teeth. You will put new aligners in every two weeks and your teeth will move gradually over time.
Based on your individual timetable, you will have periodic appointments with Dr. Kissinger-Blakeley or Dr. Braasch approximately every 6 to 8 weeks to ensure your teeth are moving according to schedule.
What if I have other dental work that needs to be done?
Dr. Kissinger-Blakeley or Dr. Braasch will discuss your treatment plan with you in detail at your initial consultation and help you decide what order your treatment should take place.
What are the health benefits?
In addition to an improved appearance and boosted self-confidence, straightening your teeth also provides other health benefits.
If your teeth do not mesh properly and your bite is off, it can cause your teeth to wear poorly over time. It can also contribute to strain on the muscles that support the jaw resulting in pain while you chew.
If you have protruding front teeth, it can create a facial imbalance as well as risk for dental injury. Too much overbite can lead to excess and/or unusual wear of the enamel of the lower front teeth. The opposite problem—an underbite—also creates facial imbalance and can lead to excessive wear of the back teeth.
Severely crowded teeth are more difficult to brush and floss—and teeth with spacing can have areas to trap/collect food. Over the long term, these problems can lead to periodontal disease with associated gum and bone loss and possible loss of teeth.
Will my insurance cover Invisalign?
Many major insurance companies offer adult and teen orthodontic coverage, which includes Invisalign. As a free service, we are happy to contact your insurance company on your behalf to verify your benefits. Some insurance companies may require that you get pre-authorization prior to starting treatment.
What are my payment options?
We offer financing plans through partner financing companies that may include no money down and 0% interest for 24 months for those who qualify. These financing companies tailor the terms of the plan to best suit your needs.
